How to Do Multipyhsics Simulation in the Design Phase?

How to Do Multiphysics Simulation in the Design Phase?

Introduction

NAFEMS wishes to commission an author to the publication “How to Do Multiphysics Simulation in the Design Phase?”.

Multiphysics simulation deals with engineering problems that involve more than one fundamental physical domain. This booklet intends to provide practical guidance to tackle inherently Multiphysics problems with the right fidelity models at the right time.

Intended Readership

The intended readership consists of design and simulation engineers involved in the product development phase having prior knowledge in simulation in at least one physical domain.

Contents

  • Benefits of running Multiphysics simulations in the design phase,
  • Differences between concept phase, detail design, manufacturing and validation related simulation setups,
  • Reflection on fundamentals,
  • Common industrial use-case scenarios (links to design stages and integration into processes),
  • Role of model fidelity and hierarchy,
  • Practical guidance on problem definition, idealisation, coupling strategies, numerical setup and workflow pitfalls),
  • Case studies,
  • Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification for Multiphysics models.

Format

The document should confirm to the standard NAFEMS publication template (provided upon contract award).

The anticipated length of the publication is between 60-80 A5 pages.

Cost

The total cost is not expected to exceed £7K (GBP), and it is expected that the document will be completed within 12 months from NAFEMS approval.

Guidance for Proposals

Each proposal should consist of:

  • the proposed structure of the document with the titles of the sections to be developed,
  • work plan including milestones and interim deliveries for early review,
  • cost,
  • The authors' credentials, curriculum vitae, etc. (Proposals from single authors and consortia will be considered.)
  • The PSE competencies from the Multiphysics Analysis Technical Area that the publication is anticipated to address. Contact technical@nafems.org to obtain access.

Submission

All proposals should be sent to NAFEMS at technical@nafems.org to arrive no later than 1st of July 2026.
